The cost-of-living crisis continues to place enormous pressure on students. Rising rents, grocery prices and transport costs are forcing many to make impossible choices between meeting their basic needs and continuing their education. 
 
Currently, there is only one Shaping Futures Scholarship available for every 13 student applications received.

*Donations to Shaping Futures Scholarships received in support of Gifting Day will be matched by The MacDougall Foundation and are capped at $150,000. The University of Newcastle covers all administration costs, so 100 percent of all funds raised go directly to support Shaping Futures Scholarships.

Why your support matters

Timothy experienced domestic violence as a child and took on a fatherly role for his siblings while becoming protective of his mother. The stress of losing the family home and car made his high school years really hard, but Timothy persevered and made it to university.

Timothy knew he wanted to become a doctor, and practise medicine in a rural area – to do his bit to provide desperately-needed healthcare for people in remote communities.

But the rising cost-of-living threatened Timothy’s studies. In desperation, he applied for a Shaping Futures Scholarship from our generous community. Receiving a scholarship proved to be life-changing, giving him the financial stability to continue his education.

But there are many more students like Timothy in need of urgent support.
