Wukul Yabang - Aboriginal Health Research Community Panel
The Wukul Yabang – Aboriginal Health Research Community Panel is a powerful step towards reshaping how research is done with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, not on them. This panel brings together community voices, Elders, and leading researchers to co-design and guide Aboriginal health research, ensuring it responds to the priorities, values, and lived experiences of First Nations peoples.
“Wukul Yabang”, meaning “One Path” in Awabakal language, reflects a commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of mob by ensuring community voices are at the heart of research that affects them. Through the panel, Aboriginal community members advise on everything from who leads research projects, to how data is used and shared – ensuring respectful, empowering, and culturally safe practices.
This sector-first initiative – developed in partnership with the University of Newcastle, Awabakal Limited, HMRI, and Hunter New England Health – puts community control at the centre of health research. By embedding Aboriginal governance into every stage of the research journey, Wukul Yabang ensures that health outcomes improve not only for today’s mob, but for future generations.
Your generous, tax-deductible donation will support the Wukul Yabang panel to continue leading this transformative shift in research. Your gift will help amplify community voices, embed cultural authority in research practice, and drive meaningful, lasting change in Aboriginal health outcomes.
