Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research Fund supports urgently needed, community-informed research that addresses some of the biggest health challenges facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
Led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers, this research is grounded in cultural knowledge, guided by community priorities, and delivered in partnership with trusted local health services. From maternal health to childhood ear disease, these projects aim to deliver practical, life-changing outcomes that create healthier futures for mob.
This work builds on a strong foundation – The University of Newcastle has trained more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical doctors than any other Australian university. Researchers like Dr Michelle Kennedy, a proud Wiradjuri woman, are leading transformative maternal health projects, while Dr Kelvin Kong, proud Worimi man and Australia’s first Aboriginal surgeon, is tackling childhood ear disease that holds back too many children from thriving in education and life.
Your generous, tax-deductible donation will help advance this critical work – supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander led, community-informed research that delivers real and lasting improvements in health and wellbeing across our communities.
